it has a few good outdoor installation based pieces in it which mite be interesting for us to look at. especially the CCTV kit i think has a strong social meaning behind it. but then again i also like the wallpapered trees. very nice. theres a similar piece of work that uses lego in much the same way (by Jan Vormann)

i loved mark jenkins stuff for ages. its got something very urban and cold about it. the figures he makes have a very ghostly quality to them and draw people into a surreal narrative in an everyday setting. we could put people back in the aparments. or create a big group of people standing in the courtyard.
what do u guys think? any stuff u came across? please comment :)

great research! i really like the sculptures of the people, and the photograph of the voice bubbles coming out of the windows in the flats, thats an issue i think we could look at, giving the people who used to live in the flats a voice, and finding out who used to live there. the cctv kit is really interesting!
ReplyDeleteyea i think the voice theme is really it, isnt it. i would like to pursuit that too. giving people a voice. how we can do that...how we cud enable them and how we can communicate with them.
ReplyDeletei think the first step is to interview a variety of people, to see what they want their local identity and their voice to be, what they want to say.
ReplyDeleteyer we need to find a way to communicate with them, i like your idea of setting up a text service for the younger residents. it was good talking to the older generations. how could we then represent this voice?
yea thats the challenge isnt it. yea i thoughht about this text based thing a lot before. i want to use technology/channels of communication that are "native" to the audience.
ReplyDeletechatting to the older residents was natural for them..thats what they are used to. thats how they tell their stories. the younger generation should maybe be approach differently and also be expressed in a different way! :)
i m thinking maybe we just get a free sim card from 02 or something..u can doo that right? and then i got an old fone and i set it up so that all the text messages are automatically forwarded to my email address...
ReplyDeletetext service idea sounds very interesting.
ReplyDeletei like the filling in gaps in walls with lego. quite funny looking
reminds me: there are small vents in walls outside next to the doors, theres a pic in my flickr, i think its enough space to fit a ipod, to show videos, if anyone makes any.
